kissed goodnight

you were the absence i

by Evie Legender

the breath of the morning
shared between us
has died out into nothing
with the campfires last smoke
smouldering away
into blackness.
my lips that once rested upon your skin
are now crackled
and dry, breaking away
the skin peeling
where you once touched
your absence burns me
yet i still wish you goodnight.
